Which ultimately have to bear by us. I would REQUEST you to please look upon this matter seriously and as soon as possible.
Thanking You.

Earlier also I have appreciated this Kolkata Police Blog. Kolkata Traffic Police is present on Twitter and Facebook too. Number of comments/views along with information related to traffic violation are being posted over the facebook by people. However on some of the post a comment from Kolkata Police is behooved. A word of appreciation or thanks from KTP on the posts by people for helping KTP in improvement the traffic, will not only further increase participation by public, people will be eager to be another eye of Kolkata Traffic Police.
Again with word of praise for interaction at different networking sites by KTP, I impart hearty thanks.

Please inform about the material which can be carried out in the cab. My representative was caught in the taxi today for carrying some engine parts and was demanded a fine of RS 6000/ near ruby hospital though he was having all the necessary papers and challans but sergeant would not listen . Finally he had to pay RS 1200/ but was not given any papers.
Is it a crime to carry some materials in the taxi dicky with proper papers ?Is it practical to hire a van for carrying even 50/50 kgs of materials.
What law has to say about it?

Dear Kolkata Police
While surfing for some information, I came across this site. Its very much pleasing to see this platform of interaction with kolkata Police. It's really marvellous and I very much appreciate for this initiation by KP.
But, it seems that people are not much aware about this platform, as few comments ( only 125) are being seen here. In response to some of the complaints it is being instructed/asked to lodge a complaint in local police station. However if complaints can directly be forwarded to local police station by the moderator of this plaform, I believe, it would be much more appreciated by Kolkata people.
However, again I convey my sincere thanks and best wishes to Kolkata Police.

Dear Mr. Agarwal,
Our blog is an interactive forum to bring out the best platform for police-public relationship and not a forum to lodge complaints. There are certain legalities which are essential to lodge a complaint. That’s why we suggest lodging formal complaint with jurisdictional Police Station.
Our blog is going popularity with every passing day and we value our participators like you.

My mother, Ranu Prova Chakraborty, an 88 years old senior citizen and ex freedom fighter is living in a rented flat on the 1st floor at 19, Mansatala Row, Kidderpore, Kolkata 700023 under Watgunge PS. Her landlord Mr Shyamal Sarkar is repeatedly subjecting her to mental and psychological harassment and torture, which in turn is causing her physical hurt as she is a heart patient with high blood pressure.
Recently, her toilet has been waterlogged for days. When the landlord did not take any actions to fix it, my mother went to have it fixed on her own initiative. However, at this point the landlord threatened her and refused to allow her to do so.
Moreover, he has also refused to give her a duplicate key of the premise entry gate, thus making it impossible for her to do anything in case of an emergency at late night.
Your action and advice would be appreciated.
Dear Mr. Chakraborty
Your information has already been forwarded to Deputy Commissioner, Port Division. You should lodge a detail complaint with your jurisdictional Police Station. You may also contact Deputy Commissioner of Police, Port Division.

Dear Mr Jain,
Taxi is a Contract Carriage. As per Chapter-I Sub-section (7) of Section (2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the definition of Contract Carriage is “contract carriage means a motor vehicle which caries a passenger or passengers for hire or reward and is engaged under a contract, whether expressed or implied, for the use of such vehicle as a whole for the carriage of passengers mentioned therein and entered into by a person with a holder of a permit in relation to such vehicle or any person authorized by him in this behalf on a fixed or an agreed rate or sum on a time basis, whether or not with reference to any route or distance or from one point to another and in either case, without stopping to pick up or set down passengers not included in the contract any where during the journey”.
Section 168 of the West Bengal Motor Vehicles Act, 1989 provides for Carriage of personal luggage in Stage or Contract Carriage, where Sub-rule (1) of Rule 168 provides that “not more that ten kilograms of luggage or personal effects per passenger shall be carried free of charge in any State Carriage or Contract Carriage”.
Now, the aforesaid provision only permits ten kilograms of luggage or personal effects per passenger in a Contract Carriage or Stage Carriage but does not permit for carriage of goods.

Dear Sir,
This is to inform you that on the morning of 06.12.12 the taxi driver of vehicle no. WB 04 E 7167 was hailed by my father and pregnant wife to be taken from Mukhram Kanoria Road (Howrah) to Kolkata High Court but the driver after making them board the taxi tried to take a turn towards Howrah Station. On objecting, he manhandled my 65 year old father and pregnant wife. I am aghast that such incidents keep happening in our city without any strict action being taken against these errant taxi-drivers. I hereby request you to take the strictest action against such people so as to make an enduring deterrant for other taxi-drivers.
Regards,
Dear Mr Kochar,
It is indeed a very sad incident. We suggest that you immediately report this incident to your local P.S. However, we are doing our level best to curb such incidents and our efforts have already started showing results. Strict action is diligently being taken against taxi drivers who break rules and also against rampant taxi refusals. Your co-operation will surely help us succeed!

I refer to a recent article in The Telegraph regarding increased numbers of Kali Puja and Jagadhatri Puja in Kankurgachi Phoolbagan area. Similarly, the noise pollution level in this part of city has gone up to alarming level. At Narkeldanga Main Road, between Phoolbagan crossing and Kadapara, various late night musical soirees are held and dance with music activity goes on till early hours of morning. This area is hardly 500 meters from the Phoolbagan Police Station. Various complaints have been made by residents to Phoolbagan Police Station but no action has been taken till date. There is a temple in Kadapara where loudspeakers have been fitted permanently and relay of both devotional and non devotional songs has been a ritual at this temple every evening till late night. We, the residents, would request the attention of authorities to take immediate action else serious law and order situation might arise. At least 20 mails have been sent to the CP, Kolkata Police in this regard but seems they have not been seen. If an enquiry is made, Phoolbagan PS will come up with an answer that the Temple authorities only switch on the loudspeakers between 17.30 hours till 19 hours, which is wrong. In the past similar versions have come from Phoolbagan PS. If we are not disturbed in the night then we are no fools to lodge a complaint. Everytime a call is made to Phoolbagan PS, they are more interested in asking the name of the caller.
Dear Mr Sunny,
We do understand your problem and we have already forwarded your post to the concerned department for immediate necessary action.
Thanks,
Kolkata Cop
There is a taxi stand in Bansdroni (near to Millenium Hall) where there is a local tout who makes taxi drivers refuse to take passengers who want to go for a short distance or demands more money (at least 2-3 times) than the amount supposed to show on the meter. Please let me know how this unfair practice can be brought to book? There is a Kolkata Police assistance booth nearby. Will complaining to them help at all? Please understand this is a burning issue & a speedy redressal is what we citizens require. Also, please let me know how a person can collect money in a taxi stand (which i guess, must be KMC authorized).
Dear Mr Ripujoy,
Thanks a lot for providing us with the information. We have already forwarded this complaint to the traffic department and necessary action will be taken immediately. It is indeed good to know that more and more people are coming forward and joining hands with us. We expect more of such co-operation.

Do you have provisions to protect women at or near workplace? One of my colleagues is a lady and she has to go back home from office at 9PM. A guy from another company follows her every single day. The guy boards the same bus she would step into and sit beside or near her. My Colleague tried to let go a few buses and wait for the next bus but the guy will also wait for her and then board the same bus which she boards. He stares at her and tries to talk to her. She goes from SDF (Saltlake) to 206 stopage (Saltlake) and the guys boards from the same stoppage and goes till Ultadanga. If she gets off the bus at Karunamoyee, the guy would also get off there. She is afraid to talk to the police. She says she won’t have any proof as the guy doesn’t use verbal abuse. He just tortures her emotionally by sitting beside her or standing close to her as to touch her in any way. Please suggest.
Dear Mr Shubhojit,
We would request you to kindly ask your colleague to immediately lodge a complaint at her local P.S. We will surely take action henceforth.

Dear Sir,
I have boarded on aTaxi from Greenwood Nook-Avisikta Bus Stop
(Purbachal Kailtala Main Road) & its number was WB-04 B 2605. My destination was Techno India More in Sector V, Salt Lake ( Near Sector V Police station) . The distance should be approx 10 KM or less. Today I found the meter is showing 11.6 km and also there is something wrong with the waiting time too. This is not an exception – most of the taxis have doctored meters and abusive drivers. They even challenge the passengers to go to the police when this is pointed out. Is there a way by which these malpractices can be checked & errant drivers can be brought to book? This is true for various taxi stands such as Ruby Hospital, City Centre I in Salt Lake & also Science City.
Bringing it to your kind attention.

I am facing this problem (and also others) since one year at sinthee more stop taxi stand. During 8.30 AM to 9.30 AM, there is a queue of 5 to 6 taxi. But they refuse to take you, for some reason, which is not very clear (but we knw why). They have made pact with some people to take them in shuttle. We inspite of giving full hire charge, are refused since we are not profitable. This also happens if there are some ealderly people. They togather stand in a clout and smile at us, seeing our desparate state.
Can we have a better Kolkata, where this kind of “Corruption” is strongly dealt with Kolkata Police??
Dear Arindam,
Thanks a lot for letting us know about the problem. We have forwarded your post to the concerned department and the matter will be soon looked into. Kolkata Police is always striving towards excellence, to make Kolkata a better and safer place to dwell in. We need your support and co-operation to achieve our goal.

I am Amrita Basu, resident of Behala and making this post with a very heavy heart. Today while coming back from Taratala, i got up in one auto and after going to a certain distance he took another passenger which made 3 ladies sitting in front+ 1 auto driver which posed a great deal of problem. I am just a simple citizen who has just completed her studies and working and was coming back with two packets and one bag. Is it feasible for so many people to sit in front and the moment i revolted back to the driver, he started speaking quite rudely. As a responsible citizen, i wanted to make a difference so i got down at 14 No. Bus stand and i took the number of the auto WB- 0712. then i went to the nearby Police who was standing at the junction to control the traffic and narrated the whole situation. But i got no help from him except few questions shooting towards me in a rude manner and the auto driver was told to leave without a single word. i w Did i make a mistake by raising my voice against something illegal that was going on? should i be quiet next time and should tolerate all these things? Cant i expect some amount of help and cooperation from the Police? though its a petty matter but i felt i was not done justice after my efforts to stand up for the right thing.
Dear Amrita,
We are indeed pleased to know that you are such a responsible citizen to stand up for something wrong. It is indeed illegal to take three passengers at the front seat. What happened with you is also quite regrettable and the treatment meted out to you and the auto rickshaw driver was also not an expected and justified one. The police force is the guardian of law in the nation and it our duty and responsibility to safeguard the citizens and their concerns. Actions need to be taken against such activities. We would surely do the needful. Thanks a lot for your co-operation.

It’s great news from the new govt in West Bengal that Behala P.S is to be taken over by Kolkata Police. This is urgently required considering the traffic jam that we face daily . I would like to point out a very serious and big problem that we face regarding Taxi refusals. I stay at Behala manton, and Behala manton has a taxi stand. One can find at least 7-8 taxis available at the Manton taxi stand on Diamond Harbour Road , but they simply refuse to go. I wanted to take my 65 year old sick mother who is unable to move freely due to severe arthritis problem to consult doctors at Woodlands, Nightingale, during morning/ afternoon/ at 4 pm in the evening and we were refused. We found them taking other passengers in front of us to Dalhousie, airport. I find them chatting on a bench, but they refuse to go even after seeing that I have my handicapped mother with me.I had sprained my leg and had a crepe bandage around my ankle, and I wasn’t able to walk. When I asked them to take me to my office at Jeevandeep at 8.45 a.m. in the morning, but was refused. This happens at the Behala tram depo taxi stand also.I find the same problem if I choose to go to Behala taxi stand. This is a persistent problem , and we have been continously experiencing this. Can the police /Kolkata cop kindly address this persistent problem of taxi refusal plz?
Dear Susmita,
We are glad to acknowledge that very soon the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police will be expanded. We will be honoured to serve more and more citizens of Kolkata. The taxi refusal problem is indeed a persistent traffic threat. However, the Kolkata Police is striving hard to eradicate this issue. Whenever a taxi refuses you, kindly dial 1074/2094 and place your complain furnishing the taxi number. We will take charge of the matter.

Sir,
I am a resident of BEHALA WEST KMC WARD NO: 132 and as an apolitical citizen of Kolkata, I have been writing to different administrative heads, even when I was stationed outside Bengal on professional requirements, for the introduction of KOLKATA POLICE in BEHALA, THAKURPUKUR which would lead towards better civic and traffic policing in BEHALA and adjoining areas, required for better living, which the residents here deserve being under the KOLKATA SOUTH CONSTITUENCY AND KOLKATA MUNICIPAL CORPORATION.
As we have heard the BEST NEWS that I along with INNUMERABLE RESIDENTS OF BEHALA have been waiting for ages, ( that is the declaration by the honorable CHIEF MINISTER OF HANDING OVER THE RESPONSIBILTIES OF CIVIC AND TRAFFIC POLICING TO KOLKATA POLICE IN BEHALA, THAKURPUKUR ALONG WITH OTHER POLICE STATIONS ) I have some suggestions for your erudite self to consider.
Even though the stipulated deadline of takeover of our area by KOLKATA POLICE is SEPTEMBER 2011, however, I have a sincere request to you regarding introducing KOLKATA POLICE AND KOLKATA TRAFFIC POLICE ON A HIGH PRIORITY BASIS IN BEHALA, THAKURPUKUR AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE TIME, PREFERABLY BEFORE MIDDLE OF JUNE as that is the time when MONSOON IS SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE IN KOLKATA AND WITH THE METRO WORK IN FULL SWING, WE WOULD BE DESPERATELY REQUIRING KOLKATA TRAFFIC POLICE FOR PRECISION CONTROLLING OF TRAFFIC FROM TARATALA TILL THAKURPUKUR ON DIAMOND HARBOUR ROAD.
I WOULD ALSO REQUEST YOU TO KINDLY ISSUE NECESSARY INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CONCERNED DEPARTMENT TO BRING DIAMOND HARBOUR ROAD FROM ALIPORE TO THAKURPUKUR IMMEDIATELY UNDER AREA TRAFFIC CONTROL ( ATC ) SIGNALLING SYSTEM OF KOLKATA POLICE. JAMES LONG SARANI ALSO CAN BE ADDED.
WE WOULD ALSO IMMEDIATELY REQUIRE TRAFFIC SIGNALS AT:
1) SOUTHERN FLANK OF TARATALA FLYOVER, NEAR AJANTA CINEMA HALL CROSSING
2) AT BEHALA PATHAK PARA CROSSING
3) AT BEHALA THANA CROSSING
4) AT BEHALA MANTON HSBC CROSSING
5) AT BEHALA MANTON CROSSING
6) PARKING OF FISH TRUCKS NEAR BEHALA MARKET DURING PEAK HOURS AND ILLEGAL STANDS / PARKING OF VARIOUS VEHICLES SHOULD IMMEDIATELY BE BANNED ALL ALONG D.H. ROAD BETWEEN TARATALA AND THAKURPUKUR.
In other UNMANNED CROSSINGS, We would reuire KOLKATA TRAFFIC POLICE’S TRAINED CONSTABLES TO REDUCE ACCIDENTS.
ALSO, IMMEDIATE INTRODUCTION OF AT LEAST 2 TRAFFIC GUARDS WOULD BE REQUIRED BETWEEN TARATALA AND THAKURPUKUR. THERE IS AN EXISTING TRAFFIC GUARD NEAR BEHALA CHOWRASTA, WHICH COULD BE REVAMPED.
It would be highly appreciated if KOLKATA POLICE CAN MAKE RECONNAISSANCE OF THE AREA AND START THE NECESSARY INSTALLATION WORK IMMEDIATELY IN BEHALA, THAKURPUKUR.
By bringing BEHALA UNDER KOLKATA POLICE , the following benefits will be yielded at once:-
A. There will be EFFECTIVE CO ORDINATION ( earlier there was no co ordination re. handling of traffic at any point in time between the two organizations ) WITHIN THE SAME DEPARTMENT.
B. Kolkata Police’s TRAFFIC WING is equipped with the very best infrastructure, technology and manpower , which WBP IS NOT .
C. WBP do not have trained personnel as well.
D. IN CASE OF ANY EMERGENCY SITUATION OR NATURAL CALAMITIES, RESPONSE TIME REQUIRED BY THE POLICING AUTHORITIES WILL BE MUCH LESS AS IT IS KOLKATA POLICE WHO WILL BE CONTROLLING THE ENTIRE KMC AREA, THUS WILL BE ABLE TO SAVE MANY LIVES.
We will now be able to report the traffic situation to the KOLKATA POLICE TRAFFIC HELPLINE NOS AND any other situation to 100, 1090.
E. KOLKATA POLICE , equipped with far better human resources, technology and planning, will be able to monitor and control the law and order situation at different locations of this HUGE AND MOST IMPORTANT PLACE IN KOLKATA WHICH HOSTS WORLD KNOWN INSTITUTIONS LIKE IIM, JOKA APART FROM BEHALA FLYING CLUB WHICH HAS THE POTENTIAL OF BECOMING THE DOMESTIC AIRPORT OF KOLKATA IN A FAR BETTER MANNER.
F. Millions of people will be much relieved during ongoing metro railway project and during peak hours on all days and pujas, when Diamond Harbour Road, presently a nightmare, will be in a far better situation because of Kolkata Police’s efficiency.
G. Finally, the long standing demand from the suffering residents of Behala has been addressed and resolved.
I sincerely hope that your erudite self will surely consider the suggestions and that we will be able to see KOLKATA POLICE at the EARLIEST in BEHALA , THAKURPUKUR for which all residents of BEHALA, THAKURPUKUR region will remain thankful to KOLKATA POLICE and to be honest Sir, I personally will be expecting to see your organization controlling this huge and important area TOMORROW ONWARDS IF NOT TODAY.
Thanking You,
With Best Regards,
Arya Ghosh
Dear Sir,
You would appreciate that human beings are driven by reward and reward is a function of risk taken. I was browsing through your website and saw that you have a reward and recognition system of your force. It’s great but the system will never work because human being has a certain hierarchy of needs and not everyone is driven by money.
I saw that a certain sergeant was awarded Rs. 200 for putting his life on the line to prevent a case of mugging and snatching. Now essentially you are valuing this persons life at Rs. 200. Will the gentleman ever take the risk of protecting a citizen if he knows that the threshold limit of the reward is less than the minimiun wage in the country?
What you need to do is go back to the drawing board and during recruitment process understand what each candidate aspires to be and what motivates him/her. All rewards should be customized and channelized in those lines else you are just wasting your money.
I am sure a fund can be created for this purpose managed by a small committee comprising of citizens and the police. Every citizen wants a better & safer city and they will contribute when they know that there is something in it for them. I for one will.
Dear Kaushik,
We are indeed pleased to recognize your concern and thank you for sharing such a viable suggestion. We will forward your post to the concerned department which will surely look into the details of the matter. We will revert soon. Keep posted.
Thanks

I reside in a multistory building “shree annapurna” 6 sarat bose road
kol 20 under ballygunge ps. I have noticed that some of the flat owners have employed childrens as their domestic help which is illegal as per law.
The flat owners are also using the common space such as frontage of lift, staircases for keeping unidentified materials and allowing servents and other unknown persons to sleep in these common areas.
Those servents and other persons are neither indentified by the society nor have any police varifications.
The Local ps is also helpless..
So please help !!
Dear Mr Suren Joshi,
The matter pointed out by you needs immediate attention. We are disappointed to hear that the local police station is helpless. We suggest you to kindly lodge a formal complaint at your local police station, for necessary legal action. You can also log on to our official website, http://www.kolkatapolice.gov.in, and file a complaint therein.
We assure you that we will forward the post to the concerned department and actions will be taken after assessing further details.

Dear Sir
It is my great pleasure that Ms. Simantini Mandal has gone through the article I put here and has also asked me to clarify what i wrote.
First of all no one wants to see any human being (whether beggar or rich) only die due to lack availability of basic materials like food etc.
But side by as human being none of us like to be greeted by young children asking for alms almost any time of the day and everyday in the previous mentioned places. When I see this I think that somewhere our combined failure is working behind it.
Second of all a well trained skilled police force can do a lot of job what seems impossible for a common citizen like us.Thats why I asked the Cops to at least do something like contacting NGOs so that these kids do get a good education and proper life at later stage.
Third of all Ms Mandal if you kindly go through the initiatives taken by Kolkata police and its brother police organisations to fully curb these problems by the dual process of sympathy and law enforcement, then I think that question would not have come in your mind.
Anyway still I think that begging, unemployment, child labor all are social problems which should be dealt with socially from a sympathetic point of our conscience if we still have!
Thanks and regards,
Sourav Bhattacharjee.
I am forced to draw your attention towards the issues I am facing lately.
I am a resident of North Kolkata ,For the last 2 years I am actually staying outstation to persue my job .In my absence my family members especially my mother who is only occupant of the house during daylight has been facing relentless hurls ,low grade abuses and censures from my otherwise graceful neighbours. Initially I used to think that the female members were the culpable ones only to find later to my utter astonishment and distress that the male members are the actual partners in crime and by large the main culprits .
My mother calls me up everyday and keeps on weeping citing instances when she is deliberately made to suffer from unnecessary insults.
I am obliged to tell you that when something goes out of control actions must be taken, but since I am at a loss its becoming increasingly difficult on my part to chalk out a fruitful solution.
So as a protector of law and order I expect a wholesome solution to the problem from your side.
Regards
Dear Avijeet,
We sympathize with you and your mother for the problems that you are facing. We would request you to kindly take up the matter with the local police station immediately to ensure timely action. For further assistance please feel free to post on our blog site.

Me and few of my friends are planning of raising a fund for the disaster that took place in Japan.. But we don’t know how to reach up to the higher authorities so that we can send our collection to the affected.. Can you please guide us by telling us how do we send our collection to them??
Dear Simantani,
You may contact Consulate-General of Japan, Kolkata at 55, M. N. Sen Lane, Tollygunge, Kolkata-700040, Tel: 91-33-2421-1970, web page http://www.in.emb-japan.go.jp, for your queries.

Sir,
I would like to ask Mr. Sourav Bhattacharjee what can a police do when a street beggar will say that she is unable to feed her children and thats why she came up on road to beg for food or money.. What if a child labour says that his work is the only means by which he get something to eat.. Are the policemen supposed to make those children starve to death? Will you be arranging for their food? See it also pains me to see little children working for hours. But do we really have something to do? What we can do is that we can ask stop people behaving crudely with those little children, also offer them something whenever you can.. I think that can be our part to be done..
Dear Simantani,
Thanks for commenting on the social evil of child labour. What Mr Sourav posted was indeed sympathetic in feeling. However, as earlier commented, we suggest that let us all join hands to make our society a cleaner and better place to live. It is by co-operation, co-ordination and active sentimentalism that we can do something meaningful for the society and stop the social evils from taking their toll on innocent victims. Through literacy, practical education and spreading awareness, we can help a lot to eradicate the problem of child labour. Let us all do our ‘bit’.
Thanks,
Kolkata Cop
Sir,
I would like to thank you for taking steps against my complaint on the rashbehari bound behala autos.. For the last few days autos are available in plenty and also they donot charge more than thir usual fares.. Thank you for taking the step.. Hoping to create and see a better kolkata very soon..
Dear Sir,
What merit is given to a talented sportsmsn like a blackbelt in karate in the recruitmnet of kolkata police?
Is there any development regarding the recruitment of Si/LSi/Sgt list of kolkata police?
Thanks and regards,
Sourav Bhattacharjee.
Dear Sourav,
We are sorry to inform you that till now, there is no such provision for quota of sports person in S.I/Sgt/LSi recruitment.

Dear sir,
I understand that those who are less fortunate need to do many jobs beyond the taste of common. But under no condition child labour ,child begger and poverty shoud be mixed together. Is there any policy by kolkata police to curb brazen display of forced child labour and more pathetic child beggers openly in front of Nandan, Rabindra Sadan and Bhowanipur area?
Any one can see the beggers(mostly young women with a child and little kids of as low as 6 to 7 yrs) any time from almost 8 to 8 in every day exactly opposite Nandan.Tragically this place is covered with one police station i.e. Maidan and one traffic guard i.e. south traffic guard.
Also in the same area like in front of Nandan,Near Exide area, areas adjacent to Sadan metro area in all most all the street food shops (esp. shops which sells momos,chowmins,etc..)one will find out child labours are working from dawn to dusk.
My question – have we all sold our hearts and become a Shylock of modern day?
Please do take some step so that the cliched word “City of Joy” could effectively and efficiently mean city of joy.
Thanks and regards
Sourav Bhattacharjee.
Dear Sourav,
Child labour is considered illegal in India. We are doing our bit to eradicate this social evil. However, to eradicate this social evil completely we all need to be aware of its evil consequences. We need active co-operation from one and all , which will wipe out child labour once and for all. First of all it is important to make the under-privileged educated about the ill-effects of child labour, so that they do not push their children into the dark alleys of child labour. We are really happy to receive this post from you, which shows that this desperate concern has attracted responses. It is our appeal to all that we should work together and reform the society from the clutches of child labour.
Thank You,
Kolkata Cop
I reside at BE Block, Sector-1, Salt Lake,Kol-64. The bus stop in my area is “Kwality Stop”. Taxi refusals at this spot has become a common occurance at this stoppage, specialy in the pre 9 am period.I went to the stop to take my son to school at 7-10 am,he reads in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, which is Near Tank no 13,approx 4-5 kms from the stop. The taxi driver simply refused saying he wont go to that area as he has to come back empty. He would take me if return back or I give him ten bucks more. I just told him you put me in a mess, just wait and see what Kolkata Traffic Police does to you.The Taxi no of the bugger is WB 04 D8491.Ultimately I had to take my son to school via Auto. Sir, I need a full fledged support from your end and these rascals need to be punished.

I am a resident of Behala who is currently employed in Apollo Hospitals Salt lake. And I daily face a great risk in crossing the road right infront of the Ruby Hospital. At early morning round 7:30a.m. almost daily the vehicles run at a much higher speed than what is permitted and so it really becomes a life risk for all to cross that junction, which is proven by the number of accidents that do unfortunately occur there.Hope the matter will soon be taken into consideration .With all of our best wishes.
Dear Sayantani,
We do understand the problems that citizens like you go through everyday. We have forwarded this post to the concerned department as we have taken the issue into active consideration.

I am a Kolkata citizen who is residing in Behala tram depot.I recently got a job at Apollo Gleeneagles Hospitals at Salt Lake. And I need to reach there daily by 8am on all working days.So it will be of great help to me if you can suggest me where to contact for availing chartered buses that are already plying in this route.
Dear Sayantani,
You can get all the information about the chartered bus service from the contact person at the bus stop itself from where the chartered bus starts. Congratulations for your new job.
Best Wishes,
Kolkata Cop
Dear Kolkata Cop,
I am a resident of Behala. And I wish to inform you about one of the major problem i.e.there is a bus stop infront of the State Bank of India Behala branch.Though the place is being labelled as a bus stand there is a parking lot owing to which pedestrians face great problem while getting to the buses mainly during the office hours .Moreover the Vidyasagar hospital being located nearby it also becomes a great problem for the sick people to get a vehicle from there ,which leaves them with no other option than to move either to Behala Tram depot bus stop or Behala Manton bus stop both of which are away from this stand so please do take care of this either to remove that as a bus stop or to remove the parking zone or at least arrange so that common mass faces no risk in getting buses from there amidst the difficult traffic of behala.
Dear Sayantani,
We sympathize with you for the problem you are facing. However, the concerned area you are writing about, does not fall under our jurisdiction. You can contact your local police station and avail their help. They will surely look into the matter.

Sir,
I wholeheartedly support Ms SIMANTINI MONDAL’s grievances against the GARIAHAT/RASHBEHARI TO BEHALA route autos. It has been brought to your notice by myself long back and I still am grateful to you as I have experienced your personal involvement in this matter as one gentleman visited my house and had given a mobile no of a sergeant posted near Gariahat crossing, advising to call him and when I called he had assured of help in case required while facing auto refusal near Gariahat crossing on way to Behala.
Unfortunately though, the menace till continues as we have come to know from Ms Mondal’s experience. Would request you to post civil dressed officers at the above mentioned pockets and catch the offenders red handed.
Regards,
Arya
PS: One more reason why Behala should immediately be brought under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police, as after TARATALA CROSSING , no one from your department would be interested to know what might the passengers have gone through.
Dear Arya,
We completely understand with your point of view and emphasise the same. However, Ms Simantani’s post has already been forwarded and it is being looked into. We will retort soon with further details.

sir,
i would like to infon you that in rashbehari crossing,in the evening time,no autos are available for behala. even if there is a long queue of people waiting for behala auto, the autos of the route rashbehari-behala are only availing upto new alipore or taratala or so. even if we get an auto,it charges more than usual charges. please see to it.
Dear Simantani,
Thank you for informing us about the same. We will definitely look into the matter at the earliest.
It is of much appreciation that citizens are using this blog site of Kolkata Police to address the problems the city is facing. We expect more of such co-operation which goes a long way in strengthening the bond between the police and the masses.

Dear Kolkata Cop,
I am a retired person from Hazra. I am much pleased to see that Kolkata Cop can give such patient hearing of numerous problems as stated above. To complain against any neighbour does not sounds good. Every citizen has his right to enjoy in their life in some auspicious day like marriage anniversary, birthday like that. But if they beat drums (Tasa), or play songs in loudspeaker in much louder voice exceeding the tolerable limit for hours, then it becomes very painstaking. In the north-east corner of our house just the south-east corner of the Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital there is a dormitory where several family resides but occasionally they beat Drums in much louder sound. We shut windows yet of no avail. When they started we began to pray God as when it may stop. I know that, I could complain at Bhawanipur PS but to avoid any paraphernalia and awkward situation I remained silent for months together as I know the other neighbor also facing the same problem but I assume they do not dare to complain. Today also it was going on up to 10-45 PM and while searching internet I found the site of Kolkata Cop. Please don’t ask me to lodge complain against them. Some months ago I complained them for throwing their garbage and vegitable waste, glass etc to our compound but they pelted stone instead breaking window glass. Thank you.
Dear Sasanka,
It is indeed sad that in this City of Joy, neighbours fail to understand others’ problems. Indulging in celebrations is no crime but celebration which disturbs others is indeed not pleasurable. Besides we will definitely forward your comment to the concerned department for causing necessary inquiry into the matter and take action accordingly.

Dear Kolkata Cop,
Kudos to YOU for ensuring smooth traffic flow and peaceful atmosphere during the festive season. Hope, same efforts will be made during Kali Puja.
In response to my posting in this blog last year and prompt initiative taken by the O/C,Lake P.S. we felt very much releived as Naba MILAN SANGHA was not allowed to erect Kali Puja Pandal entirely blocking the entrance gates of our premises at 1/1/1, JODHPUR PARK, Kolkata-700 068, We expect Lake P.S.will be vigilant this year also and not permit the said club to erect Kali puja pandal completely blocking our main entrance gates
Extending my warm greetings to the Kolkata Police for this Festive Season.
With kind regards.
Dear Mr Chatterjee,
Thanks for your encouraging comment. Kolkata Police will definitely do its best to make the festive season enjoyable. Your communication regarding the Kali Puja pandal issue has been sent to the appropriate department for taking necessary action.

Today I boarded bus of WBSTC No.WB15A 6298, from Shyambazar at about 7.30 PM, I was surprised to see that the bus had REMOVED 4 set of seats, including seat of Senior Citizen and Handicapped Seat, just to make space to carry more passengers than others, the bus was not at all bothered of passengers comfort, they are forcing passengers to stand in the bus bt removing the seats in the front side. Please see what can be done and if needed please report to the public motor vehicles department, I would also want to bring under the notice of higher authoity concerned , so that same feat is not repeated by other buses in future, please take some big step to stop this in human behaviour.
Thank you.
Dear Mr Dey,
Thanks for point out. We are putting the matter before the concerned authority for necessary action.

Last Monday, probably it was 12th Sept 2010, I was ill & consulted Dr. R. K. DuttaRoy, Sr. Physician Who advised me to undergo som pathological tests and report at night at Medinova, at Mudiyali. I was the last person to report and it started back to home after 11pm. I & my wife were walking with umbrella open as It was raining since evening. From Medinova and S.P.Mukherjee road crossing I asked at least 12 taxis to go to my home at Ranikuthi. All they refused to go. Then one Taxi agreed to go with Rs.20/- extra. I had no other way but to agree to it to reach home. This is our Beloved City Kolkata.
Dear Soumitra,
It is indeed disheartening of what you must have gone through. However, taxi refusal problems are on the high but we assure all the citizens that we are doing our best to deal with it. Taxi refusal complaint forms are available with the traffic police booths at the major crossings of the city. The traffic police duty is till 10 o’clock at night and that is why may be you had to face such problems. We suggest you to lodge a complaint with the nearest police station.

I LUV KOLKTA AND THESE ISSUES ARE OF GREAT CONCERN……I EXPECT POSITIVE FEEDBACK AND ACTION
IN KOLKATA….BUSES AND AUTOS MAKE HORRIBLE SOUND POLLUTION….NEAR THE HOSPITAL AND NURSING HOME WHICH IS A SILENCE ZONE….THEY BLOW HORNS INFRONT OF THE SCHOOL, HOSPITAL ……IN A FEW YEARS WE ALL WILL BE DEAF…..POLICE SHOULD DO SOMETHING AND IMPOSE SUCH HIGH FINES THAT THE ERRANT DRIVERS THINK 1000 TIMES TO BLOW HORNS.
WE SHOULD NOT BLOW HORNS UNLESS UNTIL REQUIRED. AND WHY WE SHOULD BLOW HORNS INFRONT OF SCHOOL, HOSPITALS, NURSING HOMES……PLEASE LOOK INTO THE MATTER BEFORE THE WHOLE POPULATION OF KOLKATA BECOMES DEAF……
ONE OF THE VERY IMPORTANT THNG IS THAT SMOKING IS BANNED IN PUBLIC BUT CONDUCTORS AND EVEN SOME PASSENGERS SMOKE IN THE BUS AND IN AUTOS. EVEN IN BUS STAND, AUTO STAND AND WHILE WALKING ON A BUSY FOOTPATH. WHY NOBODY CARES ABOUT SMOKING IN PUBLIC IS BANNED IN PUBLIC PLACES……I REQUEST KOLKATA POLICE OFFICIALS TO LOOK INTO THIS SERIOUS MATTER. SMOKING CAUSES MORE DAMAGE TO NON-SMOKERS.WHY OUR HEALTH SHOULD SUFFER AT THE EXPENSE OF THE SMOKERS……PLEASE ENFORCE THE LAW.
Dear Md. Shafkat Alam,
Your concern is valid and vital to the entire social scenario. Smoking is indeed banned at public places. There are laws but most of them are violated by the public. It is our social responsibility that we need to take up. The conscience of people must work in a positive way and laws can only force someone. If the social fellowfeeling comes from within our heart, it is a much better alternative. We appeal to all – young and old, please do not smoke in public and cause harm not only to your health, but also the health of others. However, we will surely think of some measures to strict enforcement of this law.
Thanks,
Kolkata Cop
ONCE I COMPLAINT REGARDING A TAXI REFUSAL TO THE NUMBER GIVEN BY THIS WEBSITE…..THE COMPLAINT WAS REGISTERED BUT I JUST WANT TO ASK HOW WE SHOULD KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO MY COMPLAINT. THE CITIZEN HAS A RIGHT TO KNOW REGARDING THE ACTION TAKEN BY KP. ONCE I WAS WITH MY FAMILY AND ATLEAST 2-3 TAXIS REFUSED TO GO….I INFORMED THEM REGARDING THAT THEY CANNOT REFUSE THE PASSENGER….I SAID I WILL COMPLAIN TO THE KP OFFICIALS. THEY SAID THEY DONT CARE A BIT BECAUSE NOTHING WILL HAPPEN….THEY SAID THERE ARE A LOT OF LAWS AND NOBODY FOLLOWS IT AND POLICE WILL NEVER DO ANYTHING…….
ONE OF THE ERRANT DRIVERS EVEN SLANGED THE KP DEPARTMENT …THE TAXI NUMBERS ARE WB04 D4304 AND WB-19 A 7736.
I REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT ACTION KP TAKES WHEN THEY HEAR A COMPLAIN FROM A PASSENGER….ONCE I TRIED CALLING AT 9 P.M. BUT THE MOBILE WAS SWITCHED OFF….THIS WAS SHOCKING AS THE HELPLINE SHOULD BE OPEN 24×7….TAXI REFUSAL IS CAUSING A LOT OF PROBLEMS FOR THE COMMON MAN. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. MOST OF THE TIME THE TAXIS DONT WANT TO GO TO SHORT DISTANCE AND HARASS THE PASSENGERS. SOME TAXI DRIVERS DON’T EVEN KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO REFUSE ANY PASSENGER. KP SHOULD LAUNCH A DRIVE AND MAKE THEM AWARE OF THE RULE AND SHOULD IMPOSE HIGH FINES IN ORDER TO BRING THIS BIG PROBLEM INTO CORRECT ORDER.
Dear Shafkat,
Your inputs are sent to concerned department for feasibility study. We do admire such positive inputs which will help us to serve you better.

Kolkata Cop
WE ALL KNOW THAT AS PER THE HIGH COURT ORDER ONLY LPG AUTOS ARE ALLOWED TO RUN ON THE ROAD….BUT EVERYDAY IN LOHAPOOL SPECIALLY IN THE EVENING TIME BETWEEN 4-8 P.M. THE SAME OLD POLLUTING AUTOS WITH THEIR BODY PAINTED GREEN LIKE LPG AUTOS PLY ON THE ROAD AND CAUSE POLLUTION. THEY STAND JUST NEAR THE KP CHECKPOST AND NO POLICE OFFICIALS ARE INTERESTED TO STOP THIS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AS THEY MAKE A LOT OF SOUND AND POLLUTION.
Dear Shafkat,
You information has been forwarded to concerned department for necessary action.

dear sir,
I would like to draw your attention to the open sale of the pornographic Cd’s in Chandney Chowk area. I and you both will be fool to believe that local police is not aware of it. In fact I went to duty officer of New market police station to inform the matter who in turn asked me to meet “borobabu” who was not there. I personally go to the place often for my job and find at least a dozen of joints where these CD’s with bare and nude pictures of women are for sale, leave alone vouching by guys on the street for such CD. So why blame those kids who killed five year old girl at Turf View for geting some sexual pleasures and adult activities when you cops fail to stop this. I heard that in the market that local cops of Bowbabzar PS and New market PS are controlled by mafia to act against these. I would request the local DC and OC’s to take some female member their families walking beside these joints.Hope they too will find it great experience. In case they do not feel themselves reformer let they leave the job and find a clerkship job. It’s a shame for Kolkata police.
Dear Sir,
It was indeed a surprise to find my message posted on this blog site. Quite frankly I had thought it would not be published. That, apparently, has not been the case – and I am grateful to you for that.
You have sought details so that you can take action against the personnel if found guilty. Now that, in my opinion, is quite conscientious. The details, as you allude to, were not recorded.
Under the circumstances, you will appreciate, one rarely if ever walks into a police station armed with a video camera after meeting with a serious enough an accident while on way to office on the first day of the week. Nor does one argue with a policeman on matters of exchanging “shomman” on his own turf!
I take great comfort in your words that you propose to conduct a probe with regards to this incident. Notwithstanding the fact that the incident is now well over a year old and without a shred of tangible evidence other than my word for it, one has to really weigh the option of pursuing such a noble course of action.
However, I would not presume to doubt your methods nor question your judgement.
I only hope and pray that I do not land up at the wrong end of aggrieved parties by helping out in such matters.
And as they used to say in Star Wars movies, “May the Force be with you!”
Yours sincerely,
Satadru Sengupta
Respected Sir,
I once again would like to seek help regarding a certain matter. Our House is at Lake Gardens, just in the lane of Lake Gardens Post office, and of late, there has been a lot of flats which have been built in our lane. One such Promoter by the name of Mohan,is an antisocial,he drinks and comes out in the street at night and starts shouting, hurling abuses, and is said to have a lot of conatcts.Once we had to inform the police because nobody could sleep but they didnt do much, and after the 2 men in uniform left,he started shouting again and threatening, saying that no one can do anything to him.He has a motor training school by the name of Mithila Motor TRaining, and he parks all his cars in front of our house daily, even after repeatedly telling him not to,he just uses the front of our house as his own parking space, and not only this, whenever he gets a new flat built,he piles all the bricks and sand in front of our house, and damages our house.inspite of requesting him,he doesent listen and just acts as if it is his own property.Im sick and frustrated and i wish i could put him behing bars.had it been US or any other place,i could have put him behind bars, but since this is India, where ordinary citizens dont have any sort of power,i dont know what to do.Please help Sir.
Thanking You,

Dear sir,
This post is to inform you and applaud the work of a traffic sergeant Mr. Chandan Majumder who works in Chandney Chowk area. On 31 May,2010 a youth was injured after a concrete chunk fell on his head near Chandney Chowk Metro exit gate. The sergent immediately stopped a taxi and helped two relatives of the injured person to be taken to medical College. The man was bleeding profusely and had Mr. Majumder would not help them it would have been impossible to shift him so quickly as no taxi wil be taking the bleeding person.I saw this closely and hence applaud the man in uniform. The matter ,later, I saw reported in an English newspaper next day.
Dear Shri Bhattacharjee,
We thank you wholeheartedly for such appreciation and acknowledgment of our honest efforts. However, it is the duty of Kolkata Police and every officer in our force to help every citizen and provide aid in critical accidents and situations. It is our honest endeavor to serve the city better. We are forwarding your mail to the departmental head under whom the traffic sergeant is at present working.

Lake Gardens
Respected Sir,I am a resident of Lake Gardens and i go for regular morning & evening walks at Rabindra Sarovar while on my way to & from ILSS for Swimming, and i notice Hoodlums passing on lewd comments and eve teasing helpless coupless.Ive noticed a broken wall from the other side of the lake, besides the railway lines, from where these hooligans come, most of them are slum dwellers on the railway lines. These sort of criminal activities largely go unnoticed bcoz they’re considered as minor offences, and the perpetrators and criminals get away.Mostly these wicked people come in groups and carry on their daily activities, which makes it easier for them to get away and no one dares to stop them.Only last week,i saw a girl standing up & shouting back at them, but it made no difference.Sergeants are posted only in the ends, but the entire stretch is largely unmanned & prone to eve teasing. Its a pain to walk around freely, especially if u r accompanying a girl, and its dangerous.I was with my sister at the South City Mall i a bunch of youths mistook us for couples and harrassed us.Please do something about this Sir.Being Civilians,we can only look up to you for action-Regards,Snehajeet Gupta

Although the Child Labour Prevention Act has been passed in many places they are still going on to work.
Regards
Amar Das
Dear Mr Amar Das,
It is indeed very sad that small children are still getting abused by the hands of hard labour, due to poverty and need in life. It is true that in spite of the Child Labour Prevention Act being passed, there are many places where we do witness children working. However, we would like to comment that it is more of a social evil than a crime. We can definitely take action against employers who employ young children, but in most cases we see that these children willingly go for work, may be due to their family problems and poverty. It is high time that we all join hands and fight against these social evils like poverty and child labour. We should target the roots of these evils.

Mobile phones are today’s necessity. But there should be a guide line to use phones while peoples are on the road. Often this cause accidents.
Regards
Somenath dutta
Dear Mr Somenath Dutta,
What you pointed out is really true. Nowadays people remain so engrossed in their mobile phone conversations that they often lose sense that they are on the road. There are traffic guidelines regarding the use of mobile phones which are laid down. You can avail a detail information on that on our official website http://www.kolkatapolice.gov.in. The use of mobile phones while driving is a punishable offense. There are many other such guidelines. However, apart from these guidelines, we ourselves have to be more careful about such issues. Human life is precious and we need to be cautious about road accidents caused due to careless usage of mobile phones.

It’s a bit late to write about it but better late than never. I think that the regulation imposed by Kolkata Police to use semi-transparent films on car windows is absolutely justified. I have read about the whims of the silver screen stars but they must remember that you cannot compromise with people’s safety. Kolkata Cops should keep up the good work.

We request the public to come forward and co-operate with us to free this society from such fraud organisations by helping us to uncover the truths behind false appearances.

Dear Mr Jadunath Das,
Bandhs are on the political agenda. Demonstrations and protestations are legal rights. However, the police force is not the right authority to prevent bandhs. It is the public who can dismantle bandhs by boycotting them and not participating in them. In case of unrest, the police force takes the necessary action.

The security during the visit of any high profile political person makes the ordinary people suffer the most.
Dear Mr Pradip Ghosh,
We do agree that the common people suffer the most during the visit of any high profile political person for security issues. But, we cannot do any thing about it. Sir, In course of my professional work I have to move different parts of the state and the city as well. Several times I saw that the long distance passenger buses that leave from Babughat carries much amount of on their roof which is illegal . It is dangerous too.Because as the top of the bus is getting heavy the centre of gravity of the entire bus with it’s passengers shifts upwards which disbalances the bus. When it moves, the system become more instable risking the life of the passengers inside. Now as everybody knows that that the maidan and hare street police station officials who are posted there take heavy bribes from these buses on monthly basis and it is for this that the buses in such condition when runs in front of them daily they do not stop it.I am also now of opinion that neither brahma Bishnu or Maheswar can stop this bribe racket here left alone Goutammohan Chankrabarty. But abiding by my moral forces to keep barking and so will I do. I would appeal that before any police person or their relatives die in such accident in these buses please do something…the calling spirity is much like of the police official in Shool ..cinema …kuch kijiye..because to keep law is your duty and you are being paid from taxpayers money for that.
Dear Mr Sailen Bhattacharjee,
Thank you for bringing the matter into our notice. We will forward your post to the concerned department who will enquire into the matter and take necessary action.

Mr Sailen Bhattacharjee,
It is our duty to comply with the necessities of the city. Thank you very much for acknowledging our effort. We encourage more amd more people to come forward and co-operate with us, so that together we can make Kolkata a much better place to dwell in.

Hi,
The recent initiative on the part of Kolkata Police to bring down sound pollution is a welcome move. It gives some relief to learn that they have proposed to observe a honking free day in a week.
However, in this category, honking is not the only menace to create sound pollution. A large number of today’s cars
are also equipped with reverse gear horn. It goes beyond our intellect to understand what purpose this sound serves, except creating unnecessary sound pollution especially in housing complexes and in otherwise calm atmospheres. A large number of senior citizens are suffering from this menace.
Sincerely Hope that Kolkata Police in co-ordination with transport dept. does something to contain this menace.
It could be a complete ban on this horns , like the ban on air-horn initiated earlier.
Regards,
Chandan Saha
9830735995
Dear Mr Chandan Saha,
Thank you very much for acknowledging our effort. It is just an initial step and we assure you that we can fight sound pollution completely if we get the desired co-operation from the people of Kolkata. However, regarding the reverse gear horn, though it sometimes feels irritable, it is necessary for the safety of people and other vehicles. It makes others aware that a particular vehicle is im motion in the reverse gear. Still, we will forward it to the public vehicles department, who will see to it if something worthwhile can be done.
Thank You,
Kolkata Cop
sir, i am writing this post to draw your attention to a matter which I feel lowering the prestige of the cops. The home guards who are posted in exit gate( Chang wah side) of Chandni Chowk metro station have to stay in the area for long time. As they do not have any chair to seat they have to seat on the staircases and once I saw them sitting with the beggars. I would request appropriate authorities to arrange at least two chairs for them so that they can do their duty there and can also present at the spot.
Dear Mr Sailan Bhattacharjee,
Thank you for showing such concern. We are grateful to the citizens of Kolkata for understanding our needs and respecting our duties and responsibilities. We will surely bring this problem into the notice of the concerned department, who will then do the needful.
Best wishes,
Kolkata Cop
After nearly one month, I visited Kolkata Police’s blog site. I was surprised the way Kolkata Police made honest confessions about Diwali. But my reason for this post is not Diwali and crackers. Recently, KP has urged civilians having cars to keep semi transparent car glasses such that anybody (read police) can see who is sitting inside. I go to Nager Bazar everyday. This is a place very near to Central Jail. And I see lots of Black or Dark Blue coloured police vans. All of these vehicles are ‘Opaque’, not semi-transparent. I think rule should be common and be applied to everybody. Why police vehicles would be spared? I would like to see what’s your response to this post.
Warm regards,
Biswajit Ganguly
Dear Mr Biswajit Ganguly,
The rule that you mentioned in your post is common to all and is applicable all over India. However, the area that you pointed out falls under the jurisdiction of West Bengal Police and not under Kolkata Police. We clarify that Kolkata Police is following the rule themselves and is also seeing to it that it is followed by the general public.
Thank You,
Kolkata Cop
DEAR MR.DEBASHIS ROY,
THANKS FOR INVITING MY FATHER TO THE PARA FOOTBALL WORLD CUP. HOPEFULLY HE WILL BE THERE. WE HAVE RECEIVED YOUR INVITATION CARD A COUPLE OF MINUTES AGO…….
Dear Mr Md. Shafkat Alam,
Thank you for the acknowledgment.

Sir,
In respect to the recent circular by Home Ministry, GOI, to the states urging not to make arrest the first step but in fact the last resort in cases regarding the dowry related complaints, could you please state the position of of your force regarding the same? Can we expect that indeed arrests will be used as a last measure and not as a tool by the unscrupulous wives to blackmail their husbands?
With Regards
Somnath Roy
Dear Mr Somnath Roy,
We would like to clarify that going by the law, arrest is not the first step. In case of dowry, initially proper investigation is carried on regarding the torture meted out on the wife. If all the reports of the investigation finds the husband and/or in-laws guilty of torturing the bride, only then arrest is done. This law indeed helps in such cases where unscrupulous wives harass or blackmails their husbands.
Thank You,
Kolkata Cop
First of all, let me thank you for your assurance to look into the matter of colouring vegetables in poisonous chemical.
Let me also bring it to your kind attention that I am not able to post my reply in ” News This Week” section, let me know if there is any technical problem that you might be facing.
However, most importantly, I would like to know about my unanswered query re. including Behala and other areas under Kolkata Police jurisdiction.
Sir, it is really unfortunate that such a vital issue is not being given its due importance, at least it appears to be like that.
And that too when almost on a regular basis, we get to hear or read about the need for development everywhere.
What kind of development are we all talking about?
Is not introducing the best traffic management system in order to reach places which are very much within the Kolkata Municipal Area and integral parts of Kolkata, conveniently and quickly, a part of development ?
Is not including the areas, which are under different KMC wards with Kolkata PIN codes, under the jurisdiction of one police authority so that the essential services offered by them are at par in all the areas, a part of development ?
I have been to Mumbai, I have never heard of Mumbai Police and Maharashtra Police separately looking after different police stations in and around Mumbai and let me tell you no matter how posh they are but localities such as Santracrouz , Andheri, Versova or Bandra are actually suburbs of Mumbai.
Likewise in case of Bangalore and Delhi as well I have never heard of anything else than Bengaluru Police or Delhi Police.
In fact, I was having a look at the Mumbai Police Jurisdiction Section in their official website and it can be found how much organised they are to include the city proper and all suburbs into different zones and that is done in such a well planned, systematic manner.
Then, what is the problem here to bring all the police stations under one umbrella organization and that is Kolkata Police?
Is it that we have a lack of willingness to do the same practically and more interested to plan for the same virtually ?
Sorry if I have sounded harsh but I do care for Kolkata and when I compare my hometown with the other cities within our own country, I do feel bad to find out the areas in which we can better ourselves but for some unknown reasons are lagging behind.

Arya Ghosh

The auto rickshaws plying between Ultadanga and Ahiritolla ghat runs the vehicles whimsically. Sometimes they go upto Khanna crossing , sometimes till Sovabazar Metro truncating their routes. Moreover they charge fare as their wish.Froget the Motor vehicles act to give receipt for our moneey paid to them as fare. I spoke to a sergeant standing at petrol pump near Sovabazar crossing who given me a philosophical reply instead of solving the problem. If police fails to implement IPC clauses and jails becomes a place of dance, drama & sports such blog , site will put additional drainage on our tax paid money. So instead of using this blog as publicity tool of KP please use this judiciously intead of thanking the person posting praises for KP. Please mind like police there are many persons who are performing their duties and they hardly get a boost for performing better and this cannot give them excuse to forget their responsibility .
Dear Mr S. Bhattacharjee,
The problem that you have stated will surely be forwarded to the D.C. Traffic, who will look into the matter further. We understand the problem that you have faced and sincerely apologize for the same. However, we would like to clarify that this blog site has been initiated with a view to create a platform for more and more people to come forward and share their views, comments, opinions and problems. In this blog, we not only thank people who post their comments in favour of Kolkata Police, but also welcome comments which are not in favour of Kolkata Police. If you go through the pages, you will find several posts where our endeavours have been openly criticised by many. We upload all the criticisms and acknowledgements with the same sincere motive. We welcome more and more criticisms since they point out the flaws and provide us with the scope for improvement. Coming back to your query, we will revert to you once it is confirmed by the concerned department.
Looking forward to more posts from you,
Kolkata Cop
Sir,
I want to know some facts as given below regarding our posts in the blog.
1) The rank of the officials who handles these blog contents. Is it possible to hush up the comments that are not very comfortable for you.
2)Are our posts regarding our old complaints in police stations which are pending are really forwarded to the concerned ps and is monitored.
still thanks for nice interface.
Dear Mr Sailendranath Bhattacharjee,
Regarding your first query we would like to reply that the blog contents are loked after and managed by a team of competent officers belonging to various ranks. As far as your second question is concerned, we would like to clarify that old complaints are forwarded, not always to the concerned police stations, but, also to the different unit departments to which the case is related. Dear Kolkata Cop
I would like to understand what is being done to stop the increase of hawkers in every main streets of the city?
Regards
Sunnyjit Sinha Roy
Dear Mr Sunnyjit Sinha Roy,
We clearly understand that the hawker’s issue is indeed a very sensitive affair. It has a sentimental and a socio-economic aspect to it. This issue is being dealt with by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. In this respect, we would like to clarify that whenever KMC needed assistance, our force lent full support. In future also, whenever they will need assistance to deal with the matter of hawkers, we would certainly lend our full co-operation. We hope to contribute in this issue in a very positive manner.
Thank You,
Kolkata Cop

Last week I returned from Delhi from a very important official work……I saw the city roads, metro and AC Buses…….Sorry to say Kolkata is way way behind Delhi……..
Dear Md. Safkat Alam,
We absolutely understand your views regarding the stated comparison. However, the city police has no authority over the areas of development that you are citing. The authority lies with the other departments of the Government, like transport, railway and others. If you can bring your views into light in front of those departments, surely, something positive can definitely be done.
Thank You,
Kolkata Cop

Dear Mr Rajiv Thakkar,
We sincerely apologize for the delay. However, the matter is still under process. As you would also know that mobile handset recovery is a very complex process and therefore it does take time. We will definitely forward your post to the concerned department and will revert back at the earliest.

@ kolkata cop,
thank you for replying.
The CCTNS indeed seems to be a very promising idea. Will this in some way unite police stations under different jurisdictions? like kolkata police, west bengal police etc.?
Dear Mr Kisholoy Mukherjee,
As stated earlier, all the police stations irrespective of jurisdiction, are connected by the CCTNS.
Thank You
Kolkata Cop
Sir,
Thanks for your kind response and reaction regarding my query / suggestions by your msge no.ID-TK/2009/76. It shall be of great help if you kindly look into the following matter also :-
The vehicular movement direction at Exide crossing between two very important and very busy roads – Jawaharlal Nehru Road and Acharya J.C. Bose Road seems to be very complex. The cars coming from Bhowanipur and proceeding towards Esplanade by the rightward lane come to close collision with the cars proceeding from AJC Bose Road towards Esplanade. By sheer providence accidents are avoided. A Study under the supervision of a very competent expert should be conducted to find a viable resolution to the problem.
Dear Ms Nandini Bandopadhyay,
Thank you for the concern shown by you regarding the city traffic. We understand the problem stated by you and will forward the post to the D.C. Traffic, who will look into the matter. We will revert back to you at the earliest.
Warm Regards,
Kolkata Cop
Dear Mr Commissioner,
Thanks for this opportunity to reach you. For the first time I take this opportunity to urge about some facilities for the pedestrians. The signals for road crossing are to small and barely noticeable. The signals for the pedestrians should be made large – at least of a height of 2 and a half feet to three.
At multiple point crossings the pedestrians are often left bewildered or dangerously stranded halfway through on the road because vehicular traffic from another end is released. Hence, I feel that vehicular traffic from all sides should be halted after every release from one of the sides. This should be done specially at four point crossings or crossings which have more points like the one at Shambazar or Park Circus.
The second request I would like to make to you is to negotiate with the State Government and Kolkata Corporation to have the foot bridges fitted with escalators. The pedestrians – specially the old and ailing find it hard to climb the stairs which are often steep. Average pedestrians are also deterred to take the steps because of this reasons. This of course leads to another important point i.e. the Police must have its own infrastructure department with adequate funds so that the police do not have to look up to anyone else whenever it has to meet its needs for infrastructure. But, that again is yet another story.
Dear Mr S. Datta,
We absolutely understand your problem and will forward it to the D.C. Traffic. We will get back to you at the earliest once we get the confirming details and clarifications on the matter. Regarding the second issue, we would like to clarify that we do not hold the authority of commenting on the matter. It lies on the sole discretion of the Government. Regarding the police fund you suggested, the idea was innovative but the question lies with its feasibility. The authority to decide on the matter lies entirely in the hands of the Government.
Thank You,
Kolkata Cop
Dear Mr.Debaisish Roy (Spl Addln Comm)

During the Diwali….nobody seemed to follow the police instruction and there were rampant used of bombs whose DL was more than the permissible limit….., Police needs to plan out new ideas to stop this….I know this is a tough task..Coz this is causing great inconvenience to our grand parents, parents and many others…Best of Luck to Kolkata Police….
Dear Mr Md. Shafkat Alam,
We do accept that this Diwali also Kolkata could not be absolutely sound-free. However, it was better than the previous years. It was our honest endeavour to stop the bursting of crackers. To make Kolkata’s Diwali sound-free, we need the co-operation of the general public of Kolkata. We should keep in mind that the society is not a separate entity, but comprises of its inhabitants. The citizens should come forward and join hands with us to stop this social nuisance.
Regards,
Kolkata Cop
