Renovated Traffic Control Room – Another State-Of-The Art Facility

Kolkata police proudly announces the launch of its renovated Traffic Control Room, now equipped with central command and control over the traffic management system in Kolkata. Traffic Control Room will be able to monitor and control Area Traffic Control System (ATCS), Closed Circut Television System (CCTV), Red – light Violation Detection System (RLVD) and Variable Messaging System (VMS). It is also equipped with the Terrestrial Radio (TETRA), a state-of-the-art communication system.

The ATC System will cover large intersections facilitating demand-based optimal cycle time allocation and corridor synchronisation. Parts of the following corridors namely Shakespeare Sarani, Park Street, Acharaya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road and Chitta Ranjan Avenue have already been sychronised. All the 103 intersections are connected to the Traffic Control Room with managed leased lines.

24 (twenty-four) CCTV cameras are now in position at different locations in the city from which continuous video are being brought to the Traffic Control Room for 24 × 7 monitoring. Most CCTV cameras are already operational. This apart, 12 more cameras installed earlier are being integrated in the system so as to all the video feeds can be monitored from a single console.

The Red-Light Violation Detection System (RLVD) is being installed at 2 (two) important intersections viz. Dorina Crossing and A J C Bose Road/ D L Khan Road crossing. This system will help us to detect offending vehicles which jump the red signals or violates the stop line.

The variable Messaging System at 15(fifteen) locations are in action to display traffic awarencess messages and related continously. Any short message can be sent to these units from the Traffic Control Room which will facilitate the drivers to take necessary diversion etc.

Kolkata Cops win ‘Mr. Kolkata’ contest

It is a new feather on the cap of the Kolkata Cop. Top three positions of Best Physique Contest in the super-tall category were won by the city police personnel. Physical fitness and strength and good physique are the hallmarks of good policing. Kolkata Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakrabarti expressed happiness over their feat. “I hope these three police personnel will be source of inspiration for others in the force,” he said.

Constable Bhutto Khan won the first place, Constable Sajal Sengupta won the second and Constable Tarun Das won the fourth place in the super-tall category in the Mr. Kolkata 2011, organized by Topsia Sports Federation on January 29, 2011.

Among other distinguished guests West Bengal Amateur Body Building Association general secretary Deb Narayan Ganguly was present at the Best Physique Contest.
